The right learning environment can make all the difference for a student. If your high schooler is already enrolled somewhere else — a traditional brick-and-mortar school or another virtual or charter school — and it's not the right fit, SCVCS's Transfer Enrollment window gives them the opportunity to make a change without losing momentum toward a diploma.

Transfer Enrollment is designed specifically for students who need to change schools mid-cycle. Your student will continue attending their current school right up until their approved SCVCS start date. This helps prevent a gap in learning and creates a smoother transition, so they can move forward feeling prepared and confident.

Is Your Student Eligible to Transfer?

Transfer Enrollment is available to students who:

Reside in South Carolina.
Are entering grades 9–12.
Are currently enrolled and actively attending a traditional, virtual, online, or charter school.
Remain enrolled at their current school until their approved SCVCS start date.

Already Withdrawn From Your Current School?

Transfer Enrollment is only for students who are actively attending another school. If your student has already withdrawn, apply through New Student Enrollment or contact the SCVCS Enrollment team for guidance.

Transfer Enrollment Dates

Fall Semester Transfer Window

Applications for grades 9–12 are accepted from September 7 through October 6, 2026. Required documents are due October 8, and approvals will be finalized by October 9.

Planning for a Second-Semester Start?

Applications reopen from November 2, 2026, through January 5, 2027, for students who want to begin with the second semester. Required documents are due January 7, and approvals will be finalized by January 8. Accepted students begin classes on January 11, 2027, when a new semester and course block begin.

How Transfer Enrollment Works

Submit your application.

Apply during the Transfer Enrollment window and provide the required documents by the deadline.

Continue attending your current school.

Your student should remain enrolled and actively attending while SCVCS reviews

the application.

Receive your official start date.

Once approved, your family will receive a welcome email confirming when your student can begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost to enroll?

No. SCVCS is a tuition-free public charter school for South Carolina residents, and tuition for approved dual enrollment coursework is covered for eligible students.

Can my student transfer if they've already withdrawn from their current school?

Transfer Enrollment is intended for students who are currently enrolled and attending another school. If your student has already withdrawn, please apply through New Student Enrollment instead.

When should my student withdraw from their current school?

Keep your student enrolled and attending their current school until SCVCS confirms their approval and official start date. This helps prevent an unnecessary gap in their education.

How will transferring affect my student's credits?

SCVCS reviews each student's transcript to determine which completed courses and credits apply toward graduation. The enrollment team can help families understand how the transfer may affect their student's progress.

Can a senior transfer to SCVCS?

Seniors may apply, but graduation timing depends on their completed credits and remaining requirements. SCVCS can review the student's transcripts and help the family understand the available path forward.

Does SCVCS support transfer students with IEPs or 504 Plans?

SCVCS works with eligible students and families to provide services and accommodations outlined in their IEPs or 504 Plans. Contact the enrollment team to discuss your student's needs before transferring.

What if the Transfer Enrollment window has already closed?

Once the fall Transfer Enrollment window closes on October 6, 2026, SCVCS reopens applications November 2, 2026 through January 5, 2027 for students who want to start with the second semester on January 11, 2027.

Does SCVCS offer GED or adult education programs?

No. SCVCS is a K–12 public charter school and does not offer GED preparation or programs for adults returning to complete their education.
